Fun Things to Do This Fall in Greenville, SC and Clemson
There is something special about fall in the Upstate. Cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, football Saturdays, pumpkin patches, festivals, apple cider and plenty of reasons to get outside make September through November one of the best times of year to enjoy Greenville and the surrounding communities.
Whether you’re looking for a family adventure, a weekend date idea or simply a reason to get out of the house, here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy fall in Greenville, Clemson and the Upstate.
1. Make a Day of Fall for Greenville
Few Greenville traditions capture the spirit of fall quite like Fall for Greenville.
This year’s festival takes over downtown October 9–11, bringing food, live music and plenty of family entertainment to Main Street. The 2026 festival features more than 60 restaurants, hundreds of menu items and dozens of musical acts across multiple stages — and admission is free. (Fall for Greenville)
It’s the perfect opportunity to walk downtown, try something new and enjoy one of Greenville’s biggest annual celebrations.
2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Corn Maze
Fall isn’t complete without a trip to the farm.
For families with kids, Denver Downs in Anderson is a great option. Its fall festival combines pumpkins and a corn maze with dozens of family activities, animals, entertainment and seasonal food.
If you’d rather have a quieter farm experience, Little Cane Creek Farm & Corn Maze near West Union offers a classic fall atmosphere with a corn maze, outdoor activities and a hayride.
And for a traditional Upstate pumpkin festival, Pumpkintown Pumpkin Festival in Pickens County is worth putting on the calendar.
3. Go Apple Picking
Fall is also prime time for an apple adventure.
Head north toward the foothills and mountains, where you can combine apple picking with a scenic drive, fresh cider and some classic fall treats.
MacGregor Orchard in Travelers Rest is a convenient local option for enjoying the fall orchard atmosphere without making an all-day trip. Fresh cider and seasonal treats make it especially fun for families.
For a bigger day trip, head toward Hendersonville and check out Grandad’s Apples, where you can enjoy the orchard, farm market, bakery and seasonal activities.
4. Explore Falls Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail
You don’t need a special event to enjoy fall in Greenville.
Take a walk through Falls Park on the Reedy, grab lunch downtown and then head onto the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The cooler temperatures make it one of the best seasons of the year for walking, biking and simply enjoying Greenville’s outdoor spaces.
Fall is a great reminder that some of the best family activities don’t have to cost anything.
5. Spend a Saturday Morning at the Farmers Market
Grab breakfast, browse local produce and pick up something seasonal at the TD Saturday Market downtown.
The market runs through the fall season and offers locally grown produce, prepared foods, artisan products and family-friendly activities. It’s an easy way to turn an ordinary Saturday morning into a Greenville tradition.
For even more fall shopping, the Greenville State Farmers Market hosts AutumnFest September 25–26, featuring fall plants, pumpkins, apples, gourds and other seasonal items. (South Carolina Department of Agriculture)
6. Enjoy a Clemson Football Saturday
Of course, no Upstate fall bucket list would be complete without Clemson.
There’s something different about a football Saturday in Clemson — the orange, the tailgates, the traditions and the excitement around Memorial Stadium.
Clemson has several big home games on the 2026 schedule, including Miami on October 3, Charleston Southern on October 17, Virginia Tech on October 24, Georgia Tech on November 14 and South Carolina on November 28. (Clemson University Athletics)
Even if you aren’t attending the game, spending the day in Clemson can be an experience of its own. Walk around campus, enjoy the tailgate atmosphere and take in the sights and sounds of a fall Saturday in Tiger Town.
7. Take a Walk Through the South Carolina Botanical Garden
If you want a more peaceful Clemson experience, visit the South Carolina Botanical Garden.
The 295-acre garden on Clemson University’s campus offers walking trails, gardens and South Carolina’s natural landscapes. Fall is an especially beautiful time to explore the grounds.
It’s a great option when you want to slow down, get some fresh air and enjoy the changing season.
8. Plan a Clemson Family Weekend
September is a great time to experience Clemson beyond football.
Clemson’s 2026 Fall Family Weekend is scheduled for September 18–20 and includes activities such as tailgating, outdoor recreation, trivia, brunch and other campus events. (Clemson University, South Carolina)
Even for families who aren’t attending Family Weekend itself, that weekend captures what makes Clemson such a fun fall destination.
9. Get Outside and Chase the Fall Foliage
The Upstate is fortunate to have mountains just a short drive away.
Pack the family, grab some snacks and head toward the Blue Ridge foothills for a scenic afternoon. Travelers Rest, Marietta, Pickens, Table Rock, Walhalla and the areas around Lake Jocassee all provide opportunities to enjoy cooler temperatures and changing leaves.
Sometimes the best fall activity is simply getting in the car and seeing where the road takes you.
10. Make Halloween a Family Tradition
Fall also means Halloween.
For younger kids, Greenville offers family-friendly Halloween activities throughout October, including Boo in the Zoo at the Greenville Zoo and community fall festivals throughout Greenville County.
Greenville County Parks & Recreation has several free fall festivals scheduled in October, including events at Freetown, Staunton Bridge, Brutontown, Mt. Pleasant and Sterling. (Greenville Parks & Recreation)
Whether your family prefers costumes and candy or pumpkins and hayrides, there are plenty of ways to make October memorable.

One of the best things about living in Greenville is that you don’t have to travel far to experience an entirely different kind of fall day.
You can spend Saturday morning downtown, visit a pumpkin patch in the afternoon, watch football in Clemson or take a scenic drive toward the mountains — all without going very far from home.
